What Is Clinical Data Management?CDMS, or clinical data management, is used in any kind of clinical research such as new medications use in health care. This clinical data management is to manage the data that has been gathered for this research. This research is kept at the clinical site and stored in the clinical data management. The research goes through various analysis in order to reduce the risk of human error. The most popular way of doing this audit is double data entry. Double data entry, or two pass verification, in the clinical data management is a way to verify that the original entry of data matches the second entry of data so there is no errors. One person enters the data into the system and a totally different person who is usually called a verifier, enters the data again and the two are compared for data entry errors. These errors would then be corrected. Once this data has been verified that there are no data entry errors, then it has to be checked for what is called logical errors. One example of a logical error is the age of the participant and is this person really qualified for the study. The clinical data management also has the function to code the data. This coding of data has two main areas. Adverse Event Terms and Medication Names. An adverse event is the side effect or change in the health of a participant in a clinical trial or in a defined period of time after the trial is over. Medication names are the medicines that were administered to the participant during the operations of the trial. The clinical data management performs system checks on the terms and names given to the medications that were used or given to the health changes that the person might experience because in medical terminology, one term could look the same but have one letter different. Both terms could be spelled correctly but be totally different health issues or medications so this a very important factor in the clinical data management. The clinical data management, before the clinical trial, can be loaded with the dictionaries of words that would only pertain to that study.
